Certificate IV in Building and Construction is not a recognised qualification by the Victorian Building Authority… Take a look for yourself on the VBA website https://www.vba.vic.gov.au/building/registration/faqs
We have clients every day who get the Builders Licence in Victoria based on experience and testing equivalent to a prescribed qualification but The Diploma in Building Construction Diploma is the one recognised by the VBA.
Certificate IV and Diploma of Building and Construction provide valuable information but are not specifically designed to provide information to assist you for Builder Registration.
Education is great but the Victorian Building Authority (VBA) really wants to see your work experience and your work history. If you think by doing a Course in OH&S, a course on Contracts, a course in interior design is going to make all the difference to your Application to the VBA then hold off on spending lots of money to get a whole lot of Certificates….This is not what the VBA are exactly looking for to get your Builders Licence.

No… at least there’s been no press release to suggest this. The Victoria Building Authority (VBA) replaced the former Building Commission on the 1st July 2013 in an attempt to “clean-up” the industry and improve the Registration of Building Practitioners in Victoria.
Definitely NOT! There is a lot of confusion around the plans tests. The plans you look at on site are designed to be used to build a house or do site work. At the VBA, the plans you get aren’t designed to build a house they are intended to test your knowledge referencing Australian Standards and regulations, particularly the timber framing manual and the NCC.
Don’t be fooled….the plans are different.
